Dear RoboCup community worldwide,

I'm writing today with news about RoboCup 2021.  We will update the
websites in a week or two, at which point it will be fully public.  For
now, please feel free to share this message within your leagues and
teams.

As you know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to cancel
RoboCup 2020.  As the conditions unfolded, there wasn't time to react
and put together a strong online event.  Unfortunately, the pandemic is
still ongoing.  But this year there is time to plan ahead.

For several months already, the technical committees and organizing
committees have been working to create rules that will support a fully
remote RoboCup 2021.  In some leagues this may mean running your robots
in your own local labs with a live stream.  In other cases it may mean
using a simulator.

Meanwhile, the trustees and I have begun planning ways for everyone to
come together for our usual symposium, league meetings, national
committee meetings, social events, etc.

Further details will be shared in the coming weeks.  But for now I
encourage you all to continue with your team development and to look
forward to exciting competitions and events this summer.

Though these circumstances are not ideal, I know we can rise to the
occasion.  Over the years, I have repeatedly been impressed by the
incredible passion, innovation, and creativity embodied by the RoboCup
community.  I see this as an opportunity for us to come up with new
ideas and infrastructure that we will all be able to leverage in the
following years.

Meanwhile, we fully expect to be back together in person in Bangkok in
2022 and we even expect to have news we can share about RoboCup 2023
within a few weeks.

Stay safe and healthy!

Warmly,
Peter Stone
President, RoboCup Federation
